Vision | (Why?)Why Coastal? Why do we exist? We believe Jesus is calling together a displaced and disoriented group of Portland, Mainers to, “Come and follow me” as the guide on a common mission to love God, love each other, and love the world.
Our collective response to centering our lives around following Jesus as Lord, is the expression…"Coastal." So, Coastal exists to see displaced and disoriented pilgrims become…
A new kind of family formed by following Jesus together on everyday pilgrimage to join with God in the redemption of Greater Portland and all of creation through sacrificial love. ...
By following Jesus together as Guide & Lord, WE envision:
A new kind of FAMILY - A people no longer displaced or estranged based on boundaries but part of God's global Family table bound together by God's mission.
A new kind of HOUSE - Jesus frames the building of a Kingdom outpost for refuge and justice, a metaphorical beachhead to fight against the enemy, and a literal place of Sanctuary where Table fellowship occurs.
A new kind of CITY - Greater Portland no longer in disrepair but reordered and bound together in the unity and peace of Christ.
A new kind of WORLD - All of creation no longer disoriented/disjointed but centered around Jesus as Lord of all creation.
For this reason, we dream about and work for the Good News as pictured by St. John in Revelation 21: 'Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth...I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem...And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with humanity, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away...I am making everything new."'
What do we mean by "following Jesus as Lord or Guide"?
