With gladness, let us present the offering of our life and labor to the Lord being mindful that the earth is the Lord's and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it. - Psalm 24:1
Because God owns it all and we are called to use God’s resources to advance the redemptive purposes of the Kingdom…Blessing others with our money is another specific way of participating in our community. It’s also simply a matter of discipleship. Money mirrors our heart’s passion and the means in which we spend our money reflect our mission and priorities. We believe tithing (10% of our earnings) happens to be a great starting figure for giving to both God and the church; yet we believe God desires us to be accountable with each penny we intake. God is concerned with the BIG picture. Whatever money we have been blessed with should be considered a gift from God. We are blessed in order to bless others, thereby expanding Christ’s Kingdom of love here on earth.
We believe all disciples of Jesus are invited to PRACTICE material generosity. The trailhead for generosity begins by following Jesus with all of our hearts and as we are formed in his image, with our earthly treasures.
We consider a common guidepost for sacrificial giving is 10% (a tithe) of everyone’s household income. These “first fruits” are given to support the collective, kingdom mission of Coastal Church. At first, if 10% giving seems unmanageable, consider what you can consistently give and then, increase that amount by 1% or 2% of your total income at regular intervals.
As Jesus guides each of us, the remainder of our offerings can be given to Coastal Community, to Missional Partners of Coastal, or to other ministries of each of our choosing.
If you would like to contribute to the vocation/mission of Coastal Community Church, please make checks payable to: Coastal Community Church and place them in our offering baskets on Sunday mornings, or set up an auto bill-pay with your bank, or stop by our offices, or mail to: 260 US Route 1 Scarborough, ME 04074
Coastal believes that the Church does not exist for its own benefit. On the contrary, it exists to be a demonstration of what life in God’s Kingdom (God’s hopes and dreams available here and now) looks like. For this reason, we are in process of devoting our time and energy to causes and actions that help to display the kingdom in all its beauty (check out our Pilgrim Partnerships). Again, we are in process of (re)distributing our money to those same purposes.
Throughout our church community's calendar year we will experiment with several practices that will (re)distribute our funds to local and global kingdom justice. Our leadership team will keep you posted on our upcoming missional-giving ventures...
